pieThe amount of time to bake a pie crust depends on the type of pie you’re baking.

  • If you need a fully baked pie crust, like for a cream pie, line it with foil, fill it with pie weights or dried beans, and bake it at 425 degrees for about 25 minutes, removing the foil and weights for the last 5 minutes.
  • To par-bake pie crust, like for a quiche, bake it at 450 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes. You’ll want to cover it with foil for 8 minutes, then remove the foil and bake until the crust is slightly browned.
  • If you’re making apple pie or another type of fruit pie, the bake time will be about 50 minutes at 375 degrees. You’ll know it’s ready when the filling is cooked completely and the crust is golden brown. If you notice that the crust is getting too brown, cover it with foil or a pie shield.

The bake time and temp for apple pie fluctuates; so make sure that you’re following an apple pie recipe closely. You will know it’s done when the crust is golden brown and flakes when you touch it with your fork. If you aren’t sure, you can also use a thermometer to check the internal temperature as a perfectly baked apple pie will have an internal temperature of 175 degrees Fahrenheit. If you’re worried about your apple pie having a soggy bottom when you take it out of the oven, you can also pre-bake or blind-bake the crust before you put your apples in, but it’s not necessary.
